My condolences to all Glenda's family. I was sorry to hear of her passing. She has graduated to greater things. Prayers for you all. 

While Glenda Guthrie is in heaven, her effect on earth will live on in the lives of the children, including our own, she influenced for the Lord in her earthly ministry here.  She will be missed but her influence will live forever.   We thank the Lord for Glenda Guthrie.

I am so thankful for the influence Glenda demonstrated among the English faculty and students in her classes. She modeled patience, kindness, and generosity in all her doings, whether it be in response to  the international students in her charge through the Bridge or the young faculty asking for her wisdom and advice. We could always rely on her smile and encouragement. She worked behind the scenes to support us all. We still use the table cloths she made for our English picnics. I remember the day she transferred their care to me when she decided it was time for me to carry on the organization of those parties on my own. I treasure every memory and thank the Lord for Glenda's impact on my life. 

I can’t think of Glenda without thinking of soccer and Omega.
Forty plus years ago my boys started playing “Guthrie soccer” and Glenda was the master organizer and still was on the scene when my grandchildren began to play. Our boys were in Omega together. Gary & Glenda never missed a game and just a few years ago we found ourselves cheering together again as our grandsons were playing an Omega game.

Glenda was long a part of my BJU life. She was the mom of students I taught at the campus Elementary School, and later she was the major assistant for Guthrie soccer when my own boys came along, and even later she was a friend when I joined the "old office wing" of the Alumni building. She was always kind, smart, helpful, funny, and supportive. I love the memory of the entire Guthrie family, and I am so sad they are now missing her. So thankful that this is only until God reunites us in Heaven. 

Glenda & Gary, were some of the very first people we met when we came to BJU to work. I can still picture her at breakfast, leaving “The Family Room”, behind her sweet husband giving all the kids hugs. They were so welcoming & loving to us. 

 I have many memories of Glenda since she and I were office mates for 35 years and still remained the best of friends.  She patiently put up with my pranks for all those years, and needless to say we laughed a lot.  I could write a small book of our fun times.  But we frequently solved the problems of the world in the office.  Things fell apart when we retired.  But we lived about a block apart so we continued our “work.”

Whether patiently running after her husband and his soccer kiddos on the field, or walking beside him as he hugged every little kid in the Family Room, she was the very model of a spouse and mother. I never saw her being a Mom, but I've seen the stellar results. Always with a smile, and a kind, encouraging word, she lifted my spirits many times. I pray that the family will be comforted as they remember her fondly. 

She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Thankful for her years of service to her Lord.

Glenda and Gary have together formed a home away from home and been an extended family to my family. They have created a warm home environment where we have always felt welcome, warm, and encouraged in our walk with the Lord. This relationship was not the result of some life-long friendship. It all began when one of our children showed up for classes at BJU as an outworking of God's love in the life of two very faithful believers. It continued after the Guthries retired and even after our oldest kids graduated, with the Guthries helping with repairs and finding "finds" at garage sales to go in the apartment. Younger kids now attending BJU have been enjoying the same experience of friendship and love.

With Glenda's departure, I and my family are feeling a profound sense of loss. This loss is bad. But the fact that there can be such a sense of loss is evident of God's fruitfulness in Glenda's life right up to the end. She finished well. I pray that I have such a faithful and fruitful finish to my life. May all praise be to God, Whose hand was evident in Glenda's life! 

Mrs. Guthrie was always kind and patient, showing great love for her students. Praying the Lord comforts you as a family in the days ahead.

Glenda was a friend and coworker who almost always had a smile on her face. A dedicated Christian, wife, and mother who will be missed. Our condolences to Gary and the entire Guthrie family.
