He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Gwyn of 32 years: son Todd Smith (Lisa); son Scott Smith (Dayna); daughter Brandi Goble (Jeff Haraway); sister Jackie Wicker (Arnie); niece Debra Courtney-Janes (Conner); niece Teresa Rhys (Madoc); grandchildren, Brandon Smith, Nick Smith, Morgan Dismukes, Peyton Dismukes; and numerous dear friends. Randy was predeceased by his parents, George Arthur Smith and Mary Masters Smith; and wife Sheila Smith.
Randy was a native and lifelong resident of the Greenville/Taylors area. He graduated from Greenville Senior High School in 1958. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1962 from Furman University.
Randy has been an active member of Taylors First Baptist Church for over 45 years. He served on many committees at church and he coached basketball. Randy worked with Northwood Little League for many years serving as an officer as well as coaching many teams.
Randy was a proud member of Kappa Alpha Order. He was awarded the Knight Commanders Accolade in August of 2007. He served as the Province Commander for South Carolina for eight years.
Following his retirement in a respected accounting career in the corporate world, Randy founded and was President of Randy Smith & Associates, Accountant and Tax Consultant, until his passing.
Randy loved the beach and all of the many friends he met along the way. He was a cherished member of the Carolina Shag Club, serving as treasurer and President of the CSC. He was inducted into the Greenville Area Shaggers Hall of Fame in May of 2015.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 4, 2019 at Taylors First Baptist Church, 200 West Main Street, Taylors, SC. The service will be at 11:00 AM followed by visitation in the Welcome Center. He will be laid to rest at a private graveside service at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Camp Courage with GHS Children’s Hospital, 701 Grove Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
