Evelyn B. Phillips died at Clemson Heritage Memory Care at the age of 93 on Monday, October 7 after a long period of declining health. Born in Greenville, SC on January 15, 1931, Evelyn was the daughter of the late Harvey Payne and Vinnie Lou Bowers Bond.
A graduate of Parker High School in Greenville, she worked as a secretary before dedicating her life to raising her children. She enjoyed spending time with family, attending the Seekers Sunday School Class and Silver Threads senior group activities at Overbrook Baptist Church and cheering for the Atlanta Braves and Clemson Tigers.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John B. Phillips, Jr. and her sister, Vera B. Gibson. Evelyn is survived by a son John J. Phillips of Clemson, SC; a daughter, Lisa P. Giles and her husband Dr. Brian Giles, of Salem, SC; granddaughter, Morgan E. Giles of Atlanta, GA; and a special sister-in-law, Betty P. Wood of Greenville, in addition to numerous nieces and nephews she loved very much.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Overbrook Baptist Church, 1705 E. North Street Greenville, SC 29607.
A memorial service will be held in Remembrance Chapel at Woodlawn Memorial Park on Monday, October 14 at 1:00 pm officiated by Reverend Dale Sutton and Reverend Steve Phillips . A private burial for the family will follow.
