Elizabeth Talbot Phetteplace Rigby passed away peacefully on December 18, 2020 at the age of 100 years. Beth was born December 21, 1919 in Providence, Rhode Island and was the daughter of Benjamin Squires Phetteplace and Elizabeth Weir Talbot Phetteplace. The family moved to Greenville, South Carolina in 1921 when her father started Franklin Processing, a textile company where Beth later had a career in finance. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Patricia Phetteplace Raines.
Beth was a graduate of Ashley Hall School in Charleston, S.C. and Gulf Park College for Women in Gulfport, Mississippi. An equestrian in her youth, she enjoyed golf, drawing, dancing, music and reading. Beth loved parties, had a wonderful sense of humor and a wide circle of friends.
Beth was a devoted mother and grandmother. She is survived by her children: Charlie Rigby (Nancy) of Atlanta, Georgia, and Anne Rigby Knight (Barry) of Easley, S.C. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Charles Sanders Rigby, Jr., Charlotte Knox Rigby Few (Edward), Wesley Thomas Knight (Claire Fedore), and Graham Rigby Knight; and by great-granddaughter, Annabelle Frances Few.
Beth was a member of Christ Church Episcopal of Greenville for almost all of her 100 years, having joined with her parents in 1921. Due to the COVID pandemic, family members will hold a graveside service at Christ Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ Church Episcopal, 10 North Church Street, Greenville, South Carolina 29601.
