Elizabeth "Libby" Hallmark Massey peacefully went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday afternoon, June 20, 2023, with her husband and children by her bedside. Libby was born and raised in Delta, Alabama, and savored every moment of growing up on a rural country farm. If one word were able to describe Libby, it would be “Love”. Libby loved the Lord and thanked Him always for the family and friends He gave her. She was a member of Brushy Creek Baptist Church and truly enjoyed being a part of the Joyful Hearts life group.
Libby cherished short trips to stay overnight in 100 + year old cabins in the mountains and finding old country stores, homes, and red barns. She delighted in watching lightning storms off in the distance and smiled when she smelled the rain coming on a summer day. She could travel the world and never leave her chair with a good book in hand.
Libby loved and enjoyed all of God’s creation from watching the birds come to her feeders, to exploring mountains and beaches, babbling brooks, calm running streams, and waterfalls. She loved the sound of going down a red dirt road and crossing over a freshwater stream on an old wooden bridge.
Libby also appreciated heirloom flowers and plants, and her children claim she could put a stick in a pot of dirt and it would bloom.
Libby’s positive outlook and affection was unconditional and forever. She would do whatever she could for others. If she told you she loved you, it was from her heart! She would light up the darkest times with her sweet smile, gentle touch and encouraging words of comfort. She will be so deeply missed but the memories of her will last forever and always.
Libby is predeceased by her father Melvin, brother Benny, and two grandsons, Brandon and Miles.
She is survived by her mother Christine; her husband, Jim; her children: Tina, Tonya, Josh and Jamie; her grandchildren Adam, Zaydan and Samuel; her great grandchildren Ashton and Kuechly; sister, Denise; brothers: Ricky and Mike; her daughter-in-laws, Elizabeth and Angel; and her son-in-law Mike.
