Dan L. Moyd

Dan was born in Manning, SC to the late Daniel Livingston Moyd and Marie Elizabeth Kinard on April 21, 1927. He grew up on a farm in Ninety Six, SC. Dan served in the US Navy and was stationed in Hawaii at the end of WWII. He was graduate of Clemson University class of 1950 with a Bachelor’s degree in Textile Engineering Cum Laude.

Dan met his wife Gertha in Greenville while he was working at Dunean Mills.

He was the owner of Beautyguard which he started in 1952 until retirement in 2002. He loved golf and attended the Masters on Sunday for many years with his dear friend Elmer Wilson. He was an avid Clemson fan. He was a loyal IPTAY member and went to all football games for 60 years. His home away from home was in Townville on Lake Hartwell. He drove the ski boat for as long as anybody wanted to ski and drove the pontoon for as long as anybody wanted to float down the lake.

Dan was a lifelong member of Buncombe Street United Methodist Church. He worked with UMYF. He was a member of the Fellowship Sunday school class. He was a member of Kiwanis Club, the Homebuilder Association, and the Salesmen’s Club.

Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Gertha Moyd, one daughter Tena Cogswell (Woody) of Spartanburg and one son, Danny Moyd (Telisa) of Greenville, grandchildren: Marie Cattrell, Livingston Moyd, Alexander Moyd, Sarah Dale, Mary Kathryn Moyd, great-grandchildren: David Cattrell, Katharine Cattrell, and Wallace Moyd.

He is predeceased by his brothers: Pickens and Jack Moyd, and grandchild, Bennet Moyd.

A visitation will be held at Buncombe Street United Methodist Church in Greenville, SC from 12:30 pm to 1:45 pm on Monday, June 14, 2021.

Funeral services will be held at Buncombe Street United Methodist Church at 2 PM on Monday, June 14, 2021. The burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Mackey at Century Drive.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Crisis Ministry at Buncombe Street United Methodist Church.
