Family and friends of Clara H. Given are saddened by her passing on July 3, 2020 at the age of 97 1/2.
She was born on February 11, 1923 in Philadelphia, PA to John and Lilly Mae Harris.
Clara grew up in Philadelphia and graduated from West Philadelphia High School in 1940.
Her career was in banking were she started as a teller and rose to the position of assistant branch manager with the Girard Trust Bank in Doylestown, PA, now Mellon Bank. Clara was a member of Eastern Star and a member of the Travelers Rest United Methodist Church.
Clara and husband Ed, who preceded her in death, were happily married for 71 years. She and Ed enjoyed traveling in their Airstream throughout the US, Canada, Alaska, Mexico and traveled many place abroad. She loved to do crafts, play games and always played the part of hostess at parties and functions. She loved to square dance and danced just a few years ago when she visited a square dancing group in Spartanburg. She was a devoted, loving wife and mother, helpful and caring, loved to talk and enjoyed each new person she met. She especially loved children. She had such a childlike personality she related to children and had a huge smile for them. She saw wonder in everything and could make those around her see the wonder of life. Her love for ice cream was undeniable one of her most memorable characteristics.
Clara is survived by her daughter Dale Lighthall, FL, her son Ed Jr. (Vickie), SC; her grandchildren Eve Given Nasby, CA, Raymond Lighthall, AK, Ron Lighthall, FL, Robin Lighthall Grodecky, FL, Renee Lighthall Nuorimo, MA, step-grandson Jeremie Adams, IN; 12 great and 3 great-great grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be held in the future.
