Caroline is survived by her three sons: Robert Baldwin Thompson (Jackie), Timothy Clark Thompson (Mary), and Joshua Bailey Thompson (Josh). Grandchildren include Robert Thompson III (Murray), Caroline Lowder (Milt), Jake Thompson (Katie), Clark Thompson (Jess), Mary Rachel Bryson (Ross), Jenna Thompson, Nicholas Thompson, Jaden Thompson, JosieMae Thompson and fourteen Great-Grandchildren.
Born June 11, 1928 in Greenville, SC, she was the daughter of the late Meachem Burwell Clark and Nellie Mae Clark. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jefferson Pierce Thompson, Jr. (Pete), her second husband, Dr. R.C. Grier, Jr. and two sons Jeff Thompson and Todd Thompson.
Caroline was a devoted member of the Greenville Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church and was involved in many activities as a Bible teacher, as a choir member and as President of the Women’s Synodical Union. Her greatest love came in 1965 when her life was changed by Jesus Christ. From that point forward, her mission in life centered on sharing the Gospel with others. Her commitment led her to teach a weekly Radio Broadcasting Program which was based on the International Sunday School lessons.
Caroline faithfully served her community on the Board of Child Evangelism for the state of South Carolina as well as her volunteer work with the American Red Cross and the Greenville Hospital System. She especially enjoyed performing in the Greenville Theatre.
Caroline was a member of the Poinsett Club and the Greenville Country Club. She was an avid golfer and was the Ladies Club Champion in 1954 and 1959. She was a member of the Ladies Golf Association and President of that organization in 1965. She was also a member of the Western Carolina Golf Association, playing in many events in upper South Carolina and in Western North Carolina. In 1954, Caroline was voted the “Most Beautiful Golfer” by Golf Digest.
A memorial service will be conducted by the Reverend Matthew Miller at 11:00 on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at Mackey Funerals and Cremations, 311 Century Drive, Greenville, S.C. 29607. There will be a private burial for the family at Woodlawn Memorial Park prior to the service.
