Barbara Merle Emery Buttram

Barbara was born in Easton, PA to Russell and Marie Emery. From the time she was seven years old when she trusted Jesus Christ as her Savior, God’s grace by the Holy Spirit worked in her life to care for the needs of others.

In 1953, Barbara graduated from Bob Jones University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. She married Jack Buttram and worked in the library at Bob Jones. From 1954 to the 1980’s she reared five children in South Carolina and Northern Virginia.

Barbara taught at King’s Park Christian School in Alexandria, VA; Cherrydale Christian School in Arlington, VA; and Hampton Park Christian School in Greenville, SC. She served on Miracle Hill Women’s Auxillary and Gideon’s Women’s Auxillary.

Throughout her life Barbara had a passion for studying God’s Word. She was an active participant in many Bible studies and served as a leader at Bible Study Fellowship in Greenville. While residing in assisted living facilities she continued to lead Bible studies and prayer groups.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Buttram; her sister, Carolyn Sheller; her brother, Walter Emery, and her son, Kim Buttram.

Surviving Barbara are her children and their spouses: Kerry (Cynthia) of Amsterdam, Netherlands; Linda (wife of Kim) of Beckley, WV; Kevin (Janice) of Taylors, SC; Kristana (Bob) of Spartanburg, SC; Kyle of Walnut Grove, SC

Grandchildren: Josh, Jodi, Jessi, Jack, Alyssa, Andrea, Caleb, Jonathan, Peter, Timothy, Ian, Kylie, Trevor, Colin, Sean

Great Grandchildren: Peter, Lucy, Ruthie, Betsy, Silas, Elijah, Maria, Ezra, Evanthia, Henry, Lucienne, James, Eion, Finn, Asher, Molly, Chloe, Isaac, Lorelei, Silas, Corrie, Marian (with five more due by March)

Memorial service is scheduled for Friday October 15 at 4:00PM at Hampton Park Baptist Church, 875 State Park Road, Greenville, SC 29609.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to Miracle Hill Ministries.
