Alfred Cecil Edwards

Alfred Cecil "Cotton" Edwards, 89, died July 9, 2015 He was the son of the late Alfred Frank Edwards and Florence Bertha Hughes Edwards of Taylors, S.C. Besides his wife Evelyn Vera Evatt for 70 years, he is survived d by two sons: Dr. Alfred C. Edwards MD (Lynne) of Greenville, S.C. and Lesley Hughes Edwards (Jamey) of Columbia, S.C. and three lovely granddaughters: Leah Edwards and Emily Edwards, of Easley, S.C., and Jennifer Edwards of West Columbia, S.C.; one grandson: David James. He is also survived by three sisters: Mildred Catherine Wakefield, Lena Sue Phillips, and Margie Clara Odom of Taylors, S.C. He was predeceased by two sisters:, Ellender Eddie Brookshire and Patricia Lee Trammell."Cotton" was a WW II Navy Veteran that served his country aboard The USS Winslow Destroyer in the European, African and Middle Eastern Theatres of War. He served six years in the Civil Air Patrol as Director of Personnel for the Northwestern Wing of S.C. with the rank of 1st. Lt. He was Past Worshipful Master of Taylors Masonic Lodge No. 345 AFM. Where he designed and built a new Lodge in 1959. He received recognition in 2012 by being awarded a 60 year membership pin. He served as a Commissioner of Western Carolina Regional Sewer Authority for over 12 years. (ReWa) He was also a member of the American Legion Post #3, Greenville, S.C. He was also a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church located on Franklin Road, Greenville, S.C. He was a retired Engineer and received his education at Taylors High School, class of 1943, graduating from Draughons Business College in 1947, and attended Furman University, Clemson College and N.C. State at Raleigh, N.C."Cotton" retired in 1979 from Cone Mills Corporate Offices located in Greensboro, N.C. as Division Energy Engineer. The family will receive friends Saturday, July 11, 2015 at 11:00 am at Woodlawn Funeral Home, Greenville, SC with a celebration of life at 12:00 o'clock led by Rev. Rance Sprayberry and Rev. Perry Evatt. Intermittent will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.Please omit flowers and make memorials to St. Mark United Methodist Church, Franklin Road, Greenville, S.C.
