James R Smith

James was born August 30, 1949, in Greenville to the late Edgar Lincoln & Velma Lucille (Hess) Smith Sr. James was also preceded in death by his siblings, Joanna Ashton, Ellis Charles “Smokey” Smith, Della May Thomas, Edgar Lincoln Smith Jr. and Lucille Fisher.

James is survived by his wife of 56 years, Donna J. (Lavey) Smith whom he married September 2, 1967; children, James R. & Cheryl Smith Jr. of Gettysburg and Michelle & Gerald Miller of Greenville; grandchildren, Garrett & Abby Smith and Emma Miller; great grandson, Cooper James Smith; nephew, DeWitt & Bonnie Ashton of Greenville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

James retired from Hobart Brothers in Troy. He enjoyed fishing, bottle collecting with his son, his four-legged companions, but most of all spending time with his family.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, January 14, 2024, at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor Thomas Hulsman officiating. Burial will follow in Stelvideo Cemetery.
