Elizabeth, "Betty" was born November 24, 1932 in Union City, Ohio, to Clara (Smith) and Thomas A. Amburn of Union City as the ninth of eleven children.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Stewart Menke in 2011 and daughter Susan Jayne North in 2012. She is survived by sons, James Michael Menke, Thomas Allan Menke, and daughter Sheryl Layne (Menke) Hannah. Also surviving are her sister, Shirley Fourman of West Milton, Ohio, grandchildren Emily (North) Morris of Lafayette, Ind., Abigail (North) Fischer of Troy, Dr. Anna (Menke) Hatic of Greenville, Robert Menke of Versailles, Austin Emrick of Greenville, Allison and Jennifer Emrick of Mason, Ohio, and Justin Emrick of Anaheim, California. There are also 13 great-grandchildren.
Betty was a rare "force of nature" with a keen intellect, a quick wit, and great sense of humor. She was blessed with enormous musical talent, a love of people, was a great conversationalist with anyone anywhere anytime, and inspiration to her grandchildren. A friend to everyone, Betty showed great courage, self-sacrifice, and unquestioned dedication especially to her family. She approached life with compassion, generosity, and a strong sense of duty. She was adored by her husband of 60 years. Betty's love of Jesus and church life was a foundation secured for her children and grandchildren.
Anyone who knew Betty will miss her greatly.
A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at Oakland Church of the Brethren on Thursday, May 9 at 7PM.
