Kadyn David Hogg was born February 3, 2005, in Greensburg. Kadyn had many serious health issues during his short life. He was granted his angel wings on October 8, 2015, following his latest battle with AML (Acute myeloid leukemia) cancer. The past six years, Kadyn was raised and loved as a son by his grandparents Mark and Bonnie Collins of Greensburg, IN. He spent his last days at home surrounded by his family.
He is survived by his brother - Dylan Hogg, sister – Audrey Hogg, grandparents - Jill and Chris Schroeder, aunts and uncles - Mark Collins Jr. (Heather), Kyley Collins (Josh Lee) and Stephanie Schroeder (Justin Berauer), mother - Brandi Collins, father - Paul Hogg and by many other relatives in the Greensburg area.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church and was baptized in June 2014. He attended Greensburg Elementary School and was in the 4th Grade.
He loved chasing butterflies, picking four-leaf clovers, going to movies and attending Cub Scout meetings. Kadyn loved to count his money and collect pennies from his doctor, friends and family. When Kadyn was healthy enough, he enjoyed playing baseball, basketball and golf. He loved to fish and catch the “big ones”. He loved dolphins and wanted to swim with them. August 2014, his wish was granted by the Make-A-Wish foundation via a Walt Disney cruise to the Bahamas to swim with the dolphins.
Kadyn was given, by the Mayor of Greensburg, a proclamation for the “Kadyn Hogg Day” on November 16th, 2014.
His family is eternally grateful for the many acts of kindness, prayers, meals, cards and, donations from the entire community. A special thank you to the Riley Hospital nurses and doctors, for the great care they took to make Riley a “home away from home.” Each person there made him feel extra special and they always did what “Dr. Kadyn” said.
Kadyn touched the lives of many people. He had a magical personality that made you love being around him. Kadyn’s best qualities were his strength, courage, and bravery to never give up on fighting his disease. His sense of humor was contagious to everyone around him. He loved to be at home just to run around and not be bothered with anything but being a boy. His smile will always remind people how life should be handled one day at a time, one fight at a time, one celebration at a time.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, October 11, 2015, from 1PM – 5PM at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home. Kadyn’s funeral service will begin at 10AM on Monday, October 12 at the First Baptist Church, with Pastor Cliff Bunch officiating. Burial will follow at the South Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Riley Children’s Hospital or to St. Jude Research Hospital. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.gilliland-howe.com.
