David L. Begley, 81, of Greensburg passed away on April 15, 2017. He was born of February 29, 1936 in Jackson County, Kentucky, the son of Dennis and Florence Farmer Begley. David was a 1955 graduate of Brookville High School. He married Claudette Burch in 1956 and she survives. David was dedicated to his community and he was a member of the following organizations: Past President of the Life Underwriters Association; Greensburg Chamber of Commerce, Life member of the Fraternal Order of Police; Board of Directors of Decatur County Chamber of Commerce for 18 years; Eagles, First Baptist Church of Greensburg, American Legion, and the Greensburg Country Club. David represented Greensburg at the Hoosier Hospitality Days to bring industries to Greensburg. He worked to raise money for the Greensburg Airport. He was the Co-Founder of the Greensburg Fall Festival. David, Art Powers, and Herb Kohler went to Versailles Pumpkin Show and after returning started the Fall Festival Parade in Greensburg. In 1983, he received the National Service Award for Agent who contributes best service to his policyholders and his community. He owned Begley Nationwide Insurance and he retired in 1998.
Survivors include: Wife- Claudette Begley; Daughters- Kim (Kenneth) Weberding and Kay (Christopher) Cale; Sisters- Nancy Caldwell and Margaret Riggs; Grandchildren- Tyler (Brittani) Weberding, Courtnei Weberding, Jessica (Justin) Harlow and Spencer (Danielle Edwards) Cale; Great Grandchildren- Devin, Whitley, Kinsley, Boston, Lilian, Charnel, and Lea. He was preceded in death by his Parents.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral Services will be on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at 11:00 am with Rev. Cliff Bunch officiating. Burial will follow at the South Park Cemetery.
