Mrs. Willie Mae Barbee Purcell

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, May 3, 2015, at Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:00pm prior to the graveside service at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel.

Mrs. Purcell was born in Greensboro on November 3, 1927 to the late William Arthur Barbee and Lillian Mae Spencer Barbee and was a life-long member of Florida Street Baptist Church. She graduated from Greensboro Senior High School, (now Grimsley High School). She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Robert “Bob” Clay Purcell; sister, Norma Jean Barbee Massey; and brother, Joseph “J” Barbee.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Rhonda Purcell Harvey of Greensboro, Donna Lynn Hudson and husband David Wesley Hudson of Reidsville, and Susan Gail Purcell of the home; and a grandson, John Robert Harvey of Charlotte.

The family would like to give special thanks to Mrs. Purcell’s caregivers, Brenda Chapman and Tosha Smith, and to the caring staff at Beacon Place.
