Wade Jay Spangler

Wade grew up in Columbus, Ohio, graduated from West High School in 1956, earned a degree in Business from the Ohio State University in 1960, and earned his MBA at Central Michigan University in 1974. He spent 37 years working for Western Electric (later AT&T) in Columbus, Ohio, and subsequently in Burlington, NC, where he retired in 1987.

Wade is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Spangler; his sister Winnie (Paul) Neil; his four children, Doug (Becky) Spangler, Jody Spangler, Vicky (Ronnie) Clark, Tracy (Brad) Thien, as well as Joyce’s son Scott Fanter and daughter Debbie (Oscar) Nardi. Wade had 15 grandchildren: Aaron (Brittany) Clark, Brittany Shamblen, Natalie (Drew) Roberston, Corey (Erin) Riffe, Paige (Eric) Canale, Landon (Rachal) Spangler, Nicole Carr, Charlee (Chase) Gentry, Joie Carr, Ellie Ackerman, Kevin, Taylor, and Nikki Nardi, Julie Dubois and Mitchell Thien. He had eight great-grandchildren (Stella and Ivy Clark, Sophie and Lucy Riffe, Addeline and Vincent Canale, Ari Robertson, and Dorian Spangler).

For all who knew Wade, he loved his wife Joyce and all his family. He was an active member of the Living Church of God and will spend eternity in the Kingdom of God. In his earlier years, he enjoyed watching his son Doug play little league baseball and football, having poker nights with his buddies, and Saturday nights with a good steak, beer, and the company of his close friends. He was a big fan of the late Johnny Cash, enjoyed Clint Eastwood movies, and watched British television. Wade was a dedicated Ohio State Buckeye football fan and loved watching their games. He always looked forward to Thanksgiving with his family. For years, he was an avid jogger and later enjoyed walking daily with Joyce and dancing on Saturday nights at the Liberty Showcase and The Barn. Wade and Joyce took annual trips to North Myrtle Beach, where they walked the beach, played pool at a local pub, and enjoyed eating at their favorite restaurants. Wade was also known for his love of the stock market, sense of humor, beautiful smile, endearing laugh, and twinkling eyes.

A celebration of Wade’s life will be at 11:00 a.m. Sunday, November 5, in the Lineberry Center at Hanes Lineberry North Elm Chapel, 515 North Elm Street, Greensboro. The visitation is one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Wade Spangler was a remarkable man and loved by many. He will be missed greatly by all.
