Tony Venson Ridge, age 70, died unexpectedly at his home in Archdale on January 8th, 2024. He was born on December 13th1953 in Thomasville NC and was the son of the late Astor Venson Ridge and Beulah Raines Ridge. He was also preceded in death by three sisters Shelby, Diane, and Joan Ridge; two brothers Phillip and Roger Ridge; and one niece Debra Whitley.
He dearly loved his family and is survived by one brother Randy D. Ridge and wife Angie of Greensboro; one sister-in -law Nancy B. Ridge of High Point ; five nephews Andrew J. Ridge of Thomasville, Todd Ridge and wife Angie of Garner, Chris Whitley and wife Renee of High Point, Jeff Whitley and wife Jan of Oakridge, Rob Whitley and wife Jennifer of North Myrtle Beach; four nieces Penny Bell and husband Tim of Thomasville, Melinda Lyles and husband Calvin of Knightdale, Holly Gerli and husband Alex of Raleigh, and Amy Ashlaw and husband Tyler of Colorado.
Tony was the proud uncle of many great and great-great nieces and nephews. Tony cared for and continued to stay in touch with cousins and extended family in the triad. Because of his big heart, gentle nature and humility, he had many friends and acquaintances that he always considered a part of his family.
Tony graduated from Trinity High School in 1972 and continued his education at Guilford Technical Community College with a focus on mechanics. His career included working as a manager for Zingo Mart in the High Point and Archdale area and for the ABC Board and associated stores in High Point. After retirement, he worked part time with Thomas Tire and Automotive in Archdale.
Tony was an avid sports fan and played soft ball as a younger man. You could often find him sitting in his recliner watching his favorite football or basketball teams. He was also a fan of local sports teams and could be seen with his nephew Andy and a best buddy Richard. I am sure the times he spent with them will remain priceless.
Tony was not afraid to show his affection for family and he ended every visit with a big hug and said “I Love You”. We should all learn a lesson from this and take advantage of every opportunity to show our love for each other. There is an old song by James Taylor, “Shower the People”, and this best describes his thoughts and desires during his life and for our lives here until we see him again in Heaven. Listen and Remember.
Gathering of Family and friends will be held on Sunday, January 21, 2024 from 1:00-3:00 pm at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 West Gate City Blvd., Greensboro, NC 27407.
