Stuart Kenneth Taylor, 52, passed away peacefully at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at 6:55pm, surrounded by those for whom he cared for the most in this world.
Stuart was born on January 7, 1971, in Essex, England. At the age of two, it was discovered that Stuart was deaf and a diagnosis of autism followed around the age of 11. His disabilities brought about many challenges in the years that followed. His parents, Jill Slatter and Ken Taylor fought tirelessly for his care, education and support.
When the family moved from England to America, in 1981, it opened a new world of services for Stuart. America also introduced him to the pleasure of bowling, delicious food and golf, three of Stuart’s passions!
It was later in Stuart’s life that he had the fortune to meet two caregivers, that he adored and who adored him. Words will never be able to express the gratitude that we feel towards Quamdeen Onikoyi and Massiel Michel. They will forever be a part of our family because of the kindness, love and care they showed to Stuart.
Quamdeen and Massiel accompanied Stuart on a trip back to London last year. Stuart was able to enjoy riding the Underground trains and even took a trip to Paris via the Eurostar train. We are so thankful that Stuart had the opportunity to take such a wonderful trip.
Stuart faced a lot of adversity during his 52 years, yet he was able to find joy in simple pleasures thanks to the support and care of his team of providers and family. We are forever in debt to Servants Heart and the Sandhills Center, Gina, Cassidy, Tocarro, Kisha, Rhys, Betty, Nancy, Stephon and of course Quamdeen & Massiel, thank you, from the bottom of our hearts for doing everything to give Stuart the best life possible.
Stuart is survived by his father and stepmother, Ken & Janet Taylor of Oak Ridge, his mother and stepfather, Jill & Terry Slatter of Greensboro, his sister and brother-in-law Kay & Mick Thornton of Greensboro and his nieces and nephew, Charlotte and Harry Hardy and Kemsley Thornton.
Stuart is now free from the disabilities that troubled him in life, free to smile, laugh, to speak and hear and without worry and anxiety. Free to return to the arms of those that have passed before him.
A Service of Remembrance and Celebration of his Life will be held at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 West Gate City Boulevard, Greensboro, NC 27407 on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at 5:30 pm with Rev. Dr. Jay Smith officiating.
The family ask that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Servant’s Heart at 3706 Old Battleground Road, Greensboro NC 27410.
