Shirley Marie Taylor Nicholson, 83, a resident of Jamestown passed away on Thursday October 8, 2015 at the Hospice Home of High Point. She was born September 2, 1932 in Guilford County the daughter of George and Myra Vickrey Taylor.
She graduated from Pleasant Garden High School where she played basketball. Shirley worked for J. P. Stevens, spent two years with the Department of the Navy in Japan and then worked with HUD (Housing Urban Development) until retiring. She was a member for many years of Shiloh Presbyterian Church in Burlington where she was a member of the church choir. After moving to Jamestown she became a longtime and beloved member of Jamestown United Methodist Church. An active member of the church, she was a member of the church choir, taught children’s Sunday school for many years, served in many church missions such as the “Pumpkin Patch” and was involved with the church Bible studies.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Susan Nicholson and brother, George H. Taylor.
She is survived by her sister, Phyllis Ryals and husband Bill of Greensboro; half-brother, James Taylor of Charlotte; caregiver and niece, Judy Ritter and husband Warren of Greensboro and several other family members and friends who cared for Shirley over the years.
A Celebration of Life Service for Shirley will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 12, 2015, at the Jamestown United Methodist Church conducted by the Reverend Tom Latimer. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service. Interment will follow the visitation at Gilmore Memorial Park in Julian, for the immediate family.
