Shirley Anne (Capps) Hall

Funeral services will be 3:00 pm Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 West Gate City Blvd., Greensboro, NC 27407. Following the funeral services, she will be laid to rest in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends and loved ones two hours prior to the funeral, from 1:00 until 3:00 pm at the funeral home.

Shirley was born in Greensboro on January 30, 1940 to the late John M. and Margaret “Peggy” Capps and was raised in the Coopertown area. She graduated from Jamestown High School in 1958, and was a member of Our Father Lutheran Church in Greensboro. Shirley married Jack Richard Hall on July 19, 1958 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Salisbury, NC and was a dedicated Air Force wife who traveled with her husband for over 21 years to many states and even to the Philippines. She and her family eventually moved back to Greensboro to be closer to family. Shirley was a Homemaker, Bookkeeper, Tax Preparer and Eclectic Collector. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her. She loved to travel, garden, visit casinos and threw elaborate get-togethers to bring all the family together whenever she could. Above all, she loved her family and her children and grandchildren were her life. She was proud to be called Mom, Punky, Grandma Punky, Punk and Aunt Shirley, not only by her blood relatives but, by so many of her extended family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack R. Hall; brother, Johnny M. Capps, Jr.; nephews, John “Dee” Capps and Kelly Kellam; and (racing to greet her at the pearly gates), sister, Helen “Tweety” Newman.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Richard Hall (Marie), David Hall (Susanne Gaddis) and Danny Hall (Rashel); daughter, Beth Smith (Greg); sister, Peggy Millikan (Pete); “adopted” sons, Steve Auman, Jeff Johnson and David Rawlins; 10 precious grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; many other extended family and friends.

Memorial contributions in Shirley’s memory may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project.

One of Punky’s favorite things to say was “Stay Happy”, and her favorite family member was the one closest to her at the time.
