Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, May 4, 2012, at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm St. Chapel, with Rev. Carl Parsons officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park Cemetery.
Born in Rockingham County, to the late Omer and Prudence Knight, Mrs. Smith was a member of Alamance Presbyterian Church. Sara was a member of the Masonic and Easter Star and a Lady of the Oasis Shrine Club. She retired from Lorillard after 33 years of employment, as an Inspector. Sara enjoyed traveling, gardening, and making various crafts. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her siblings, Aileen Knight Steelman, Mabel Knight Joyce, and Carl Wayne Knight.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband B. M. Smith, Jr. of the home; children, Jerry Michael “Mike” James, Sr. and wife Kim of Pleasant Garden, Danny Wayne James and wife Eleanor of Greensboro, Yvonne Coble and husband Bobby of Greensboro, and Stephen McKinney and wife Lisa of Virginia; grandchildren, Mitch James, Courtney James Fields, Luke Coble, Cliff James, Alaina James, and Kathryn Edwards; great- grandchildren, Ashlyn Noel James, Jacob Michael James, McKaylen Brooke Fields, and Michael Cole Fields.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Kimberly Smith Mosher, for her caring and compassionate home healthcare.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 1:50pm Friday afternoon, prior to the funeral service, at the funeral home.
