Ruth Cartner Wilkes

A graveside service will be held Monday, July 25, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church.

Ruth was born October 19, 1928 in Davie County, NC, the daughter of Fred and Ola Koontz Cartner.

Ruth was a graduate of Pfeiffer University and Appalachian State University where she received her degree in education. She went on to teach in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools, and later was a secretary at Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church. Ruth was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church and was active in the Western N.C. Methodist Church Building Team for over 25 years. Ruth enjoyed gardening, cooking, traveling, and quilting.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Milton and her sister, Betty Alice Hathcock.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Alice Gardiner and husband Bob of Southport; son, Wesley Wilkes and wife Linda of Greensboro, and her granddaughter Ashley Wilkes of Baltimore, MD.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks with gratitude that memorials in Ruth’s name be made to Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, 5120 Burlington Rd., Greensboro, NC 27405, or the Hampden Family Center, 1104 W. 36th Street, Baltimore, MD 21211.
