Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, April 6, 2012, at Rehobeth United Methodist Church, with Rev. Ben Shepherd officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Born on November 10, 1917, in Guilford County, to the late Everett and Estelle Hodgin, Mr. Hodgin was the oldest member of Rehobeth United Methodist Church and the Men’s Bible Class. Jack attended Guilford College after completing High School and then served as a Technical Sergeant in the United States Army, stationed in London England during World War II. During that time he met his English Bride. Jack loved to garden and supply fresh produce to his family and neighbors. He retired as Postmaster in 1978 and was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, known as NARFE, and was a member of Odd Fellows Buena-Vista Lodge. He was a gifted woodworker who enjoyed sharing the fruits of his labor with friends and family. In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Joan Palmer Hodgin; sisters, Margaret Willard and Edith Coble; and brothers, E.C., Lewis, and James “Lee” Hodgin.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Richard Hodgin of Salisbury, John Hodgin and wife Marty of Greensboro, and Jane H. Roach and husband Edward of Greensboro; sister, Frances Kerr of Texas; grandsons, Palmer Hodgin and wife Tara of High Point, Brian Hodgin of Wilmington, Evan Hodgin of Greensboro, Matthew Roach and Fiancee Lauren Marion of Greensboro; great-granddaughter, Rowyn Hodgin; and his faithful canine companion Penny.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rehobeth United Methodist Church.
The family would like to express special thanks to Jack’s neighbors and to his caregiver, Mary Wolf.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8pm, Thursday, April 5, 2012, at the funeral home and other times at Mr. Hodgin’s residence.
