Bob, as he was known to family and friends, was born in Greensboro, NC, where he lived the majority of his life. He enjoyed a long career in communications that began as a radio DJ for WBIG (Greensboro, NC) and ended as a Master Control engineer at WFMY (Greensboro, NC). His favorite duty was running the live notifications on snowy mornings that let children know school was canceled. Bob was a gregarious person who was always ready to entertain with a joke or story, and he enjoyed spending time with friends, watching soccer and discussing politics. He counted his children as his most important legacy and told everyone he could how proud he was of both of them.
Bob is survived by his children Anna Durham of Honolulu, HI, her husband Jonathan and step-grandchildren Maggie, Claire and Ryan of Frisco, TX, as well as son Gary Tucker and his partner Lauren Manship, both of Wilmington, NC; older brother Richard Tucker and wife Kathy; and nieces, Patti Janes, Christina Thompson and Renee Saul. He is preceded in death by his sister Barbara Janes and nephew Mark Janes. A family memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, his children ask that you hug your kids, tell a friend a joke, enjoy a Seven and Seven and make a donation to your favorite voting rights or literacy group.
