Robert George Boulton passed away peacefully at his home on February 14, 2018 following a brief hospitalization after a fall. He was born in New York, New York on August 6, 1928 to Anna Bund Boulton and George William Boulton.
Bob loved being around family and friends and was known for his quick wit, charismatic personality and generosity. He was an avid reader with a love of history and business, always reading several books at once as well as the daily Wall Street Journal.
Bob worked for Norwich Eaton Pharmaceutical company for 37 years starting as a salesman in training and ending as the company’s youngest president. During his time with Norwich he served in the Korean War as an Army medic in the 40th infantry division.
After leaving Norwich Eaton, he moved to Oak Ridge, North Carolina and became the President and CEO of Gulf Resources and Chemical in Houston, Texas while also consulting for Goody’s Manufacturing in Winston-Salem, NC and Merz Pharma in Frankfurt, Germany. He also served on a number of national corporate boards.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara Butler Boulton, their four children, Guy Boulton (Mary Ford), Gail Boulton, Glenn Boulton (Gina Boulton) and Beth Boulton (late A. Holt Gwyn), his brother, William Boulton and his wife Joan (Syracuse, NY) and their five children.
He adored his five grandchildren, each of whom brought a special joy to his life: Kathryn Bates Boulton (25), Maggie White Boulton (23), Boulton (Bo) Miller (21), Walker Miller (20) and Robbie Boulton (16).
A service will be held on Saturday, February 17 at 11:00 am at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 2715 Horse Pen Creek Rd, Greensboro, NC 27410. Immediately following the service, a Celebration of Life will be held at the home of Gail Boulton at 2011 Lafayette Avenue, Greensboro, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church (address above), Weatherspoon Art Museum (500 Tate Street, Greensboro, NC 27412) or Art Alliance (200 N Davie Street # 1, Greensboro, NC 27401).
