Richard Otto Gerlach, 88, passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2011 at his residence at Pennybyrn at Maryfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, 1:00 p.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church with Fr. John Allen officiating. Inurnment will follow at Westminster Gardens Cemetery.
Richard was born on March 18, 1923 in Buffalo, NY. He served his country in the US Army during WW II. He was twice wounded while serving with Patton’s Third Army in France and Germany. After the war, he married his sweetheart of sixty-five years, Ruth Manchester, and they raised six children. Richard will be remembered by his family and friends for his wisdom, his wit, and especially for the love he shared with each of us.
Richard is survived by his loving wife Ruth, their children; Claudia Duncan and husband David, Daniel Gerlach, James Gerlach and wife Amelia, Lawrence Gerlach and wife Brenda, Anne Gallant and husband Michael and Jane Chrisawn and husband Christopher; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Home of High Point, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, NC 27262.
