Our beautiful son and grandson, loyal brother, trustworthy friend and confidante, and extraordinary filmmaker, Nik, died suddenly November 22, 2017 in Anaheim, CA where he was studying with the Dodge College of Film and Media Arts as a graduate student at Chapman University. He was twenty-four years old. His life will be celebrated at 2 PM, December 9, 2017 in the Lineberry Center of Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm Chapel with Reverend Jeff Webster officiating. The family invites guests to share memories of Nik during a reception at the funeral home following the service.
Nicholas Wayne Aufderhar was born in Greensboro to Craig Franklin and Carol Covert Aufderhar. Even as a child Nik set himself apart from his peers. Mediocrity was never an option for him. He graduated from Northern Guilford High School and with honors from UNC-Wilmington in 2016 where he majored in film studies and minored in English. He was an accomplished athlete particularly excelling in baseball and basketball. Nik took his own path and followed his ambition in film production which eventually led him to Chapman University in August of this year. He was a self- taught talent in keyboard, guitar and mandolin and required perfection of self in anything he attempted. Described as a non-conformist Nik maintained a quiet and pensive spirit but was willing to share his beliefs and opinions with others. Although he sometimes appeared aloof, he was devoted to his close-knit alliance of friends and always sustained the tender spots in his heart for his family, his closest friends and his cat.
He will be remembered with love by his parents, Craig Aufderhar of Graham and Carol Covert Aufderhar of Greensboro; brothers, Cameron of Lima, OH, and Jason and wife Kim of Climax; sister, Heather of Greensboro; maternal grandparents, Judy and Harry Bellinger of Madison and Wayne and Dottie Covert of Lexington; nephew, Ryan; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, J.W. and Doris Aufderhar and maternal great grandparents, Roland and Ann Covert.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Shriner’s Children’s Hospital, 909 S. Fair Oaks Ave, Pasadena, CA 91105. Online condolences may be offered at www.haneslineberryfuneralhomes.com. Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm chapel is assisting the Aufderhar family.
