Mother, our warrior, has resurrected for the last time into the arms of God, Jesus, her siblings and parents. Minnie Winona Wood Murphy, 92, became freer on July 4, 2018. A service to celebrate her glorious spirit will be at 3PM, Sunday, July 8 at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm chapel with Reverend Kaye Florence officiating, followed by interment in Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1PM to 2:45 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
Minnie was born in Guilford County to the late Baskim Lee and Jinnie Melinda Grubb Wood. After high school graduation she studied Business at Guilford College. Minnie was a free spirit who laughed often and lived life abundantly. Her thought processes and speech were uninhibited and she had a sense of adventure without trepidation. Even her outlook of her own mortality was different and she had several occasions to think of it as she suffered through more than a few episodes of health challenges over the years. Through it all she maintained her positive attitude and said last month “I can’t die a normal death. I have to do it in degrees.” Minnie had the opportunity to travel the world and particularly loved Italy. She had a delightful obsession with chocolate, ice cream and sweets and looked forward to her “Satdy” night outing for dinner. She loved to read and watch old movies on TMC. Her passion was her family and she entertained them with stories of her youth and travels. Minnie once said, regarding her long life, “God’s not through with me yet. He’ll know when it’s time.” She lived a life of joy, gratitude and love to the very end.
Memories of Minnie will be lovingly held in the hearts of her daughters, Kellie Melinda and Clara Dee Murphy; grandchildren, Taylor Baskim Brooks-Murphy and Murphy Noelle Harrell; and many nieces and nephews she loved as her own children. In addition to her parents and spouse, Dewitt Vernon Murphy, she is preceded in death by her eight siblings, Ersley, Esther, Francis, Virginia, Lee, Sarah, Helen, and Doodie.
