Michael Ray Simmons Sr.

Mike was born on July 18, 1949 in Stuart, Virginia to Wilbur and Ruth Simmons. He grew up in Greensboro and graduated from Ben L. Smith High School in 1967. He immediately began his career in telecommunications, working at Western Electric, AT&T, and Charles Singleton Co. Mike never met a stranger, was an avid golfer for most of his life, and in recent years, enjoyed time spent at Cherry Grove Beach. It gave him great pleasure to share the beach home with family, and to visit with their “Beach Family.”

Mike is survived by his wife, Dianne Drake Simmons, mother Ruth Simmons, sons, Michael Simmons, Jr. and Steven Simmons (Chrissy), grandchildren Christian and Emilia Simmons, sister Patricia Dillard (Barry); and brother Mitchell Simmons (Ivy). He was predeceased by his first wife, Dale Previtte Simmons, father Wilbur Simmons, and grandchildren Amos and Addison Simmons.

Honoring Mike’s wishes, there will be no formal visitation or service. The family invites those who have special memories of Mike to share them, with a laugh, as often as they can. If desired, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
