Mary, 94, of Greensboro, passed away on June 10, 2015. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, June 14, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church in Greensboro. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 2:00 in the Virginia Gilmer Room at the church. Burial will follow at Westminster Gardens. She will lie in state at Hanes Lineberry N. Elm Chapel on Saturday from 9:00 am- 5:00 pm.
Mary was born November 14, 1920 in Winston-Salem to Joseph P. Campbell and Marvel C. Campbell. She grew up in Winston, graduating from Reynolds High School and then Salem College with a BS in Home Economics. She trained at Duke University as a registered dietician and worked at Baptist Hospital until she started her family. Mary met and then married her husband, Tom, in 1946. She went back to work at the Guilford County Health Department and worked there until her retirement.
Mary was an active member of First Presbyterian Church after joining in 1955. She sang in the choir there for 50 years. Mary loved her church, volunteering in her community, singing, and playing bridge as many days a week as she could. Mary will always be remembered for loving the life she lived so well. She was spirited, strong, funny and a true joy to those who were lucky enough to know her. She loved all people and loved spending time with people, especially her family. We will miss her all the days of our lives.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Albert Thomas Shore, and her brother, Frank Campbell.
Surviving are her two children, Ed Farren, of Ukiah, Oregon and Susie Marion, of Clemmons, NC; her grandchildren, Elliot Farren and Kristin and Ben Marion; step grandchildren Coleman Marion and Noella Grady and great grandson, Jordan Thomas Marion.
Memorials may be directed to Sisters in Christ at Clemmons United Methodist Church, 3700 Clemmons Rd., Clemmons, NC 27012, which will go to support the Backpack Program and shelter ministry at New Story Church.
