Mary Lynn Hunter, age 56, a resident of Summerfield, passed away of natural causes in her home on Thursday July 27, 2023. She was born February 14, 1967, in Greensboro, the daughter of the late Allen Reese and Mabel Frances Watson Hunter.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Jessica Lynn Hunter; her sister, Dee Ann Kiser and husband Terry; her brothers, Allen Hunter and wife Celia and Tyler Hunter and wife Marcia; her boyfriend, Charles Dabney; and her nieces and nephews.
Mary was a graduate of Ragsdale High School Class of 1985. Since she was young, Mary loved singing and entertaining and would perform for anyone, whether they asked or not. An accomplished musician, her career in music began when she joined Rhythm and Rhapsody at Ragsdale High School. Later, she joined her first band U.B.U and eventually went on to perform across North Carolina with a Christian rock group known as Forever Red.
Her love for animals brought her to Lucky’s Pet Resort, where she was happiest caring for and being surrounded by animals every day. Her dream was to one day open an animal shelter of her own.
Mary was passionate about spreading the word of the Lord. She grew up attending Christ United Methodist Church on Sundays with her mother, a memory she cherished dearly. Mary also spent some time teaching at Sanlando United Methodist Church. She recounted this as one of the most treasured experiences of her life. Mary will be sorely missed, but her appreciation of music, love for animals, and faith in the Lord lives on with her daughter.
A Celebration of Life Service for Mary will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday August 4, 2023, at Christ United Methodist Church 410 N. Holden Rd. Greensboro, NC 27410. The family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Break The Chain Kennel Kru and National Kidney Foundation in Mary’s memory.
