Born to parents, Jesse (Jack) and Mary Elizabeth Porter, Marion was born in Oxford, England in 1949. Marion worked for the United Kingdom Unemployment Office for nine years before relocating to Charlotte, NC where she lived until this year during which time, she formed many dear and lasting friendships. A dedicated public servant, Marion worked for the NC Employment Security Commission from 1977-2007. Marion had many loves to include fine clothes, cuddling babies and the Carolina Panthers.
Marion joins deceased family members, father, mother, brother, stepsister, and niece as well as dear friends and loved ones. She is survived by her sister, Sylvia Frizzell, nieces, Diane Martin and Denise Frizzell, and nephew David Frizzell, as well as six beloved great nephews and nieces and eight beloved great-great nephews and nieces.
The family will hold a private memorial service in Ruffin. In addition, the family will explore supporting closest surviving Charlotte-based friends to hold a memorial service in Charlotte.
Memorial donations may go to the North Carolina Chapter of the ALS Association, Hospice of Rockingham County, NC, Sea Turtle Conservancy (www.conserveturtles.org), and the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
