Marilyn Jose, age 81, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2024 surrounded by family after a brief battle with cancer. A service to celebrate her life will be at 1 PM, Wednesday, March 6 at Westminster Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends beginning at 12 PM prior to the service.
She was born on June 1, 1942 in Shelby, Mississippi. Marilyn moved to Greensboro in 1987 where she and her husband Frank successfully ran Spring Valley Restaurant for almost 40 years. Nini, as her family called her, liked to start each day with the newspaper and a cup of coffee and never left the house without being dressed to the nines. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed hosting family gatherings. She loved Bravo, crossword puzzles, and traveling, having been all throughout Europe and the U.S. She was an avid gardener and when she wasn’t out shopping, Marilyn loved decorating her house and always had one of her beloved dogs, Josie, Jackson, and Charlie by her side.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Coleman Boyette and Adele May Doster Boyette and her husband Jimmy Frank Jose. She is survived by her children, Kristen Malatesta Pruitt, Anthony Murphy, Robert Malatesta (Sean Blanton) and Cathy Phelps (Tom); three granddaughters, Meridth Bogue (Brendan), Tayler Berry (Matthew) and Kaitlyn Pruitt (Filip Maj); three great grandchildren, Cole Bogue, Caroline Bogue and Judson Berry; brother, Tom Boyette (Cay) and niece, Gable Boyette McKechnie. We miss her already but take comfort knowing she’s in Heaven watching over us.
