Mrs. Margaret Burney Brown, 93, a resident of Greensboro and former resident of Jamestown passed away on Saturday December 2, 2017. She was born April 2, 1924 in High Point, the daughter of James Alexander and Kate Frazier Burney.
Margaret was a graduate of Jamestown High School Class of 1941. She was retired from her own business, Brown’s ABC Nursery and Kindergarten in Greensboro. Margaret during her life was active in many areas. She was a member for 30 years of the American Business Women’s Association (ABW) and did volunteer work at the High Point Furniture Market, Oriental Shrine Club in Greensboro, the Greensboro Coliseum as well as the GGO of Greensboro. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
She was married to James Fred “Buddy” Brown, Jr. who preceded her in death in October, 2004 after almost 60 years of marriage. Margaret was also preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Evelyn B. Wells; and her three brothers, William “Bill” Burney, James “Jimmy” Burney, Jr. and Jesse Burney.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon B. Wright and husband Jerry of Liberty; her son, R.G. Brown and wife Janie of Advance; two sisters, Katherine B. "Joe" Sanders of Jamestown, Bessie R. "Bick" Pitts of Castle Hayne; four grandchildren, Jerry W. “Jay” Wright, Jr., Andrew Brown, Elizabeth L’Eplattenier, Jason “Jake” Brown and eight great grandchildren, Amber Beth Wright, Emily Sharon Hayward, Nicholas L’Eplattenier, Will L’Eplattenier, Amelia Brown, Andrew “Drew” Brown, Lily Brown and Daniel Brown.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel conducted by the Pastor Mike Jones. Entombment will follow in Guilford Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until service time.
