Loretta Jones

The life of LORETTA JONES began on November 26, 1943 in Lumberton, North Carolina. She was the youngest of the three children born to the late Lee Albert Jones and Evelyn Jones of Fairmont, NC. She graduated from A.J. Moore High School in Waco, TX in 1961 and would complete her undergraduate degree at NC A&T State University Greensboro, NC in 1978. While attending NC A&T State University, Loretta was initiated into the Alpha Phi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Fall 1962. In addition to being a loving Mother she worked as a bookkeeper during her adult life. Loretta (Ret) had opportunity to live abroad with her family spending time in Lagos, Nigeria and Cairo, Egypt and also visiting Athens, Greece. When she returned to the US, she was one of the Charter Members of the Sigma Iota Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. in Fairmont, NC in 1990.

Loretta accepted Christ at an early age. Living and embracing her Faith she enjoyed singing in the choir. While she belonged to many churches throughout her life she was a part of St Mary’s Catholic Church parish at the time of her passing. She spent her leisure time meeting with her A&T group of friends and playing pokeno with her “crew.”

Life ended for LORETTA JONES on June 18, 2016 at her home. She leaves to cherish her memory her four children: Toni L. Chamberlain (George) of Greensboro, NC; Jerome E. Dudley (Veronica ‘Nise’) of Upper Marlboro, MD; Cheryl D. Bowser (Eugene) of High Point, NC and Lee Anthony Dudley of Coppell, TX; 8 Grandchildren, 6 Great-grandchildren; her sister Sallie U Berry (Henry) of Cincinnati, OH; two Aunts; Ethel P Ford (Dallas) of Fairmont, NC and Alice Carter (Thomas) of Fayetteville, NC; one Uncle William Floyd (Mae) of Fairmont, NC along with a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, Other Relatives and many Friends.

A Service to Celebrate Loretta’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 W. Gate City Blvd, Greensboro, NC 27407 officiated by Pastor Joel Peterkin. Entombment will follow in Guilford Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until service time.
