Kathleen Pitts Neal, 98, passed away on May 2, 2011 at Wilkes Regional Medical Center in North Wilkesboro, NC. She was a long time resident of Greensboro and later resided at Countryside Village Retirement Community in Stokesdale.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, May 6, 2011 at 11:00 am at Hinshaw Memorial United Methodist Church in Greensboro. Interment will follow at Guilford Memorial Park.
Kathleen was born in High Point, NC, on September 7, 1912, to the late George Purvis Pitts and Mary Eunice Pitts. She worked as a sales associate at Belk Department Store on Jefferson Square until its closing and then at Four Seasons Mall. She retired at age sixty-five but continued to work until age seventy-five. She worked in the accessories department where her fashion expertise was in great demand. She was a gifted seamstress with a love for color and design.
She was a member of Hinshaw Memorial United Methodist Church where she was active in the Church Circle. She was a talented musician who could play piano and organ by ear. Kathleen was an avid Carolina basketball fan and loved to watch golf on TV.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Lewis C. Neal, Sr.; brothers, Ermine Pitts and Reitzel (Slim) Pitts; sisters Fleta P. Nance, Floy P. Edwards and Florence P. Crouch.
She devoted her life to her children who survive her: Joyce Kay Neal Campbell and husband Charles of North Wilkesboro, Lewis Clayborne Neal, Jr. of Greensboro and Dr. Philip Steven Neal and wife Brenda of Madison, NC; granddaughters, Sharon Campbell Rousseau (Julius, III) of NYC, Melissa Neal MacDonald (Byron) of North Myrtle Beach and Elizabeth Neal Mayberry (Chad) of Greensboro; grandsons, Charles W. Campbell, Jr. (Beth) of Seattle, WA, Kevin Philip Neal of Raleigh, L. Clay Neal, III, (Heather) of Jamestown, NC and Eric Steven Neal of Raleigh; and great grandsons Neal MacDonald, Holden Mayberry, Oakley Neal and Ari Neal.
The visitation will be Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Hanes Lineberry N. Elm Chapel from 7:00 – 9:00 pm
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hinshaw Memorial UMC Music Department.
