Kathleen Wagoner Harrison, 88, of Greensboro, NC went to be with the Lord on Monday, Feb 2, 2015 at Alamance Hospice Home in Burlington.
The visitation will be at Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home 515, North Elm Street, Greensboro, NC on Friday, February 6, 2015 from 12:00 - 2:00 pm, followed by a service of remembrance. A graveside service at Forest Long Cemetery on 3901 Forest Long Drive, Greensboro, NC will follow.
She was born September 25, 1926 in Alamance County to James Franklin and Maud F Wagoner, the youngest of twelve children.
She graduated valedictorian from Elon College High School in 1943 and attended St. Leo’s Hospital School of Nursing, graduating as a registered nurse in 1948. Her dedication to the nursing career spanned greater than 40 years.
She was a member of St. Pilus X Catholic Church. She was also an active member of the Myrtle Rebecca Lodge, where she served as treasurer for 10 years, and served on the Board of Directors for St. Leo’s Hospital School of Nursing.
She married the late Robert McCurry Harrison March 19, 1949 in Burlington, NC at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
She is remembered by her only daughter Laura Harrison Dudley and husband David; grandchildren, Harrison Dudley and wife Leigh-Ann, Anna Dudley; brother, John Thomas Wagoner and wife Lucy as well as countless nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Her greatest joy was her heritage. She repeatedly reflected during the past year on how the gifts of family pass from generation to generation. She loved the large number of nieces who became nurses, shared a love of flowers with her granddaughter Anna, and shared the joy of growing a home vegetable garden with her grandson Harrison. She will fondly be remembered for her humor, and growing violets in her kitchen windows and tomatoes in her yard garden. She loved to sew, hand quilt, and embroider. She was an avid reader and loved to learn, constantly challenging her intellect. She knew the meaning of work, the value of her resources, and self-discipline.
The family would like to express gratitude for all her Abbotswood at Irving Park friends, staff, and to Rose Hill and her care giving staff who she loved as a further extension of her family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association, 55 W. Wacker Drive, Suite 1150, Chicago, IL 60601, St Marks Church in Burlington, 1230 Saint Marks Church Road, Burlington, NC 27215 or St Pius X Catholic Church, 220 State Street, Greensboro, NC 27408.
