Welles Wilder passed away, to meet his father in heaven, on April 18th, 2021, after years of declining health, in New Zealand where he retired. He was a man of integrity, influence and an entrepreneur, especially in the field of technical Commodity Trading. He was a caring husband and father and had strong Christian beliefs he passed on to his children and grandkids.
Born on June 11th, 1935 in Norris TN, to John Welles Wilder, Sr.(Jack), and Frances Green Wilder. He was the oldest of four sons, and is survived by Frank Wilder (Margaret), Bill Wilder (Judy) and predeceased by Bert Wilder (Parks).
After serving in the US Navy during the Korean War, Welles attended NC State University, earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering. While still in school, he married Dawn Barefoot on July 6, 1958, and had their first son, John Welles Wilder, 111(Johnny) in 1959. Welles received his degree in 1962. Then they had Catharine, born in 1962, and David Wesley Wilder was born in 1970.
The next generation: Johnny, Catharine (Kirby) Cooper and David (Marcia) Wilder added 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren to the family. Grandkids include Christine Cooper Nowicki, John Welles Wilder, IV, Jordan Cooper, Sarah Cooper, Addison Baker, Rachel Cooper, Daniel Cooper, Lily Wilder, Andrew Wilder, Grace Cooper and Mary Cooper.
After working as an engineer, he moved to being a real estate developer, but he is most known for his work in technical analysis in the Commodity trading field. He founded Trend Research, LTD and the Delta Society, publishing books, including New Concepts in Technical Trading, in 1978, and The Delta Phenomenon a few years later. As he shared groundbreaking new concepts in the commodity trading world, his knowledge and concepts in this field are still being used by traders worldwide.
In addition to his work accomplishments, Welles will be remembered as a very generous person, giving and helping wherever there is need, and a loving husband, father and grandfather. Rest in peace and we all look forward to seeing you again someday, when we meet our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, face to face.
A graveside service for Welles will be held Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 11:30 AM at Green Hill Cemetery, 901 Wharton Street, Greensboro, North Carolina. Following the graveside service there will be a celebration of life service at 1:00 PM at Shannon Hills Bible Chapel, 900 W Vandalia Road, Greensboro, North Carolina.
