2021 at 2:12am at the age of 86 at her home after her long courageous battle against cancer.
She will be missed by so many.
But it is with great joy that we know Jean is now with her Lord and Savior, Jesus, and has
defeated cancer and death. She made a pact to meet her niece under the tree of life with its 12
kinds of fruit in the new Jerusalem, (Rev. 22:1-2), so she will see her brothers and sisters in
Christ there.
Jean is preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Edna; her brother, Harvey Jr.; her sister,
Linda; her nieces, Cheri, Cindy, and Jennifer; her three children, Mike, Vickie, and Terry; her
granddaughters, Rebecca and Tami.
Surviving Jean is her sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Charlie; her niece, Michele; her
nephews, Daryl and Charles; her great nephews, Christopher and Michael; her great nieces,
Kimberly and Amanda; her grandchildren, Michael and Amanda; her great grandchildren; Cory,
Landon, Rory, and Wesley; and her very best friend of over 30 years, Rose.
Jean was born in Tennessee, but at a young age she settled with her family in Florida. She
came to know the Lord and began to grow her faith. She married and had three children. Her
eldest son gave her three grandchildren and her daughter gave her one. Unbeknownst to Jean,
her husband passed a gene that causes Huntington’s, a fatal disease to all of her children.
Jean later would care for her two sons until they passed. After losing all of her children, she
was devastated to discover the gene had passed to her grandchildren.
Despite Jean’s many trials and tribulations, she had continued to grow in her faith. She loved
attending her church, McLeansville Baptist, and received such love and kindness from her
church family during her final battle against cancer.
Jean also had a great passion for shelties and enjoyed showing her dogs in competitions. Best
remembered were her favorites, Kayla and Andrew, who both won many awards. Anyone who
entered her home immediately knew her love for shelties because everywhere you looked was
something pertaining to shelties. She also belonged to a dog club in Florida that held so many
special memories for her. Jean’s family would like to thank her many friends from the dog show
community in Florida for all the happy memories and delightful stories we’ve heard about. Most
of all, Rose, whose friendship never wavered. After Jean moved to North Carolina, she and
Rose spoke with each other every Tuesday night.
Jean worked at Eastern Airlines for many years until the company closed. She had worked
there as an office manager. She also was a huge Miami Dolphins fan, loved the Hallmark
channels, and had a green thumb that produced gorgeous roses and many different plants.
She had grown a tomato plant on her deck that was taller than her.
Life made Jean a strong, “tough”, woman, but God gave her a softer side, and if you were
lucky to know all of her, your life has been blessed. And if she cooked for you, you received a
very tasty blessing.
A graveside service was held Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at 2:00pm at Lakeview Memorial Park.
Memorial donations in memory of Jean can be made to Huntington’s Disease Society of
America.
