Mr. Jackson Sanford Rymer, 89, a resident of Greensboro passed away Tuesday July 8, 2014 at the Blumenthal Nursing and Rehab Center. Mr. Rymer was born January 4, 1925 in Charlotte, the son of William H. Rymer, Sr. and Cora Sanford Rymer. He was a veteran of WW II serving in the U.S. Navy aboard the Destroyer USS Brush in the Pacific. He received his BS Degree in Electrical Engineering from Duke University in 1951. Jack retired from Duke Power Co. after 33 years where he was a manager and substation operator. He was a member of Hinshaw United Methodist Church, the Upper Room Sunday School Class and the Methodist Adult Fellowship.
Jack enjoyed playing golf, woodworking, telling silly jokes, Duke Basketball and was an “All Around Do-it Yourself’er”.
He was married on October 2, 1948 to the former Helen Stokes who preceded him in death on September 30, 1998. He was also preceded in death by his parents and his brother, William H. Rymer, Jr.
Surviving are his three sons, Jackson Sanford Rymer, Jr. and wife Libby of Greensboro, John Michael Rymer and wife Mary of IN, James Patrick Rymer and wife Lou of Charlotte and six grandchildren, Becky Rymer, Kathryn Rymer, John Michael Rymer, II, Sam Rymer, Charlie Rymer and Patrick Rymer.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Hinshaw United Methodist Church conducted by the Reverend Nick Scandale. Interment will follow with Military Honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard at Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel on Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Jack’s memory to Hinshaw United Methodist Church, 4501 High Point Rd., Greensboro, NC 27407.
