Helen James Jarrett

Helen James Jarrett, 91 passed away Friday, August 18, 2023 at Friends Homes Guilford in Greensboro NC. A reception of remembrance for friends and family will be held Friday, August 25 in the Living Room at Friends Home from 2:30-4:00. A visitation will be held from 11-00-1:00 Saturday, September 23 at Hafer Funeral Home, Elkview, WV with a graveside service and interment to immediately follow in Elk Hills Memorial Park, Charleston, WV.

Born November 13, 1931 in Blue Creek, West Virginia, Helen was the daughter of the late Dana Lee and Onie Marie James. She graduated from Elkview High School and spent most of her life as a homemaker. Helen’s work career started with Automated Payment Systems, followed by banking work at First Home Federal Savings and Loan, and Nation’s Bank, now known as Bank of America.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Jarrett was preceded in death by her brother, Donald James and sister, Pansy Newman. She is survived by her daughter, Kathy J. Hackler and husband, Mark of Ocean, NJ; grandchildren, Eric and Stephen Hackler, and Helen’s brother, Ronald James of Milton, WV.

Helen was known as a hard worker and a sweet lady. She liked to have a clean house and never went out without looking her very best. Helen enjoyed cooking meals for her family, gardening and taking care of plants, reading about history (especially indigenous peoples and biographies), and keeping herself fit and eating healthy. She also loved her native West Virginia.

The family would like to thank the caring staff at Friends Homes Guilford for the excellent care Helen received there and also an additional thank you to the visiting staff from AuthoraCare Hospice for their visits and their support, especially in Helen’s last few days.
