Graduating from Shelby High School, she received her BS at Appalachain State as well as attending Garner Webb, A&T State, Winston Salem State and UNCG. After 25 years of teaching math, science and special ed, she retired from Southwest Guilford.
Frances was preceded in death by her husband of 22 years, Henry Clay Smith Sr.; her parents and her granddaughter, Sandi Brooks.
She is survived by daughters Lynda Smith and Margaret Sandridge, sons Scott (Tish), Clay, and Richard (Susan). sisters Peggy Turner, Brenda Floyd, Cheryl Jones (Jack), Laura Jackson (Greg), brother “Jack” (Mary), five grandchildren, Michelle Williams and husband Marty, Rene Medlin and husband Keith, Richard Lee Smith, including Ashleigh Lauren and Hunter Brooke, with whom she lived, and seven great grandchildren, Alia Brooks, Emily Brooks, Kandis Medlin, Mathew Medlin, Dakota Smith, Austin Smith and Zach Smith.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Guilford Memorial Park, 6000 Gate City Blvd. Greensboro, NC 27407 conducted by Rev. Dale Turner. Visitation will be at home following.
