Mrs. Florence Cox Matthews, passed away on Saturday April 28, 2012. Florence was born in Guilford County on September 3, 1929 to the late Wiley H. Cox and Ruby Prince Cox. She was preceded in death by her husband Daniel C. Matthews and brothers, Dennis, Wiley Jr., Henry and Carl Cox. Early in life, she loved working and helping in the family grocery store. She always enjoyed helping others and worked as a private duty nurse’s assistant until she retired in 1995. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and family. She will be truly missed and was such a blessing to all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughters, Lisa Coltrane and husband Tommy of Pleasant Garden, Debbie Oliver and husband Tommy of Greensboro; grandchildren, Donna K. Coltrane of Greensboro, Brad K. Oliver of Greensboro and Amy Oliver Nicholson and husband Adam of Arlington, VA.
Graveside services will be held Monday April 30, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Matthews will remain at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel where the family will receive friends on Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
A special thank you is extended to Dr. Beth Golding who served as Florence’s doctor and cared so compassionately for her. Thank you to all the Hospice staff for your sincere care.
