Fannie Kenan Blackwood

Greensboro- Mrs. Fannie Kenan Blackwood, 96, was reunited with her Lord Jesus Christ and husband, Jesse Aldrow Blackwood on June 13, 2014. A celebration of her life will be at 11 AM, June 17, 2014 at Rehobeth United Methodist Church with Pastor Ben Shepherd officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.

Mrs. Blackwood was born in Duplin County, NC to the late William Alfred and Lenora Moore Kenan. In 1938 she married Aldrow and spent 50 wonderful years together until his death in 1988. They enjoyed raising their family and in later years enjoyed the company of their close friends while traveling. Fannie was a homemaker who took pride in providing a loving Christian home for her family. She was a wonderful cook and no get-together was complete unless she served her strawberry cake. Her family and friends will miss her positive energy and concern for others. Even through tough times and trials she didn’t worry as she had “put those things in the hands of the Lord.” Fannie enjoyed feeding and watching her birds and said it was going to be a good day if she spotted a cardinal that morning. She has been a member of Rehobeth United Methodist Church since 1957 serving in many capacities including church historian and Sunday school teacher. Mrs. Blackwood also served as the District 6 director of the NC PTA. She will be remembered as a strong and stoic woman who believed in the value of hard work, faith in Christ and instilled in her family the same values.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Jeannie L. Blackwood of Greensboro, David (Cordella) Blackwood of Greensboro and Joseph “Dan” (Judy) of High Point; grandchildren, Jeff (Chanda) Blackwood, Randy (Nancy) Blackwood, Tommy Blackwood, Beth (Mike) Kabakoff and Amy Blackwood; great grandchildren, Nick and Dean Blackwood, Liana Aman, Lena Kabakoff; great great grandson, Jackson Aman; sister Grace Tippett of Greensboro; several nieces and nephews; and sisters-in-law, Maxine and Barbara Blackwood. She is preceded in death by one sister and seven brothers.
