He graduated from Pilot High School and joined the Navy at 16, serving as a Radioman 1C on the USS FOGG-DE-57. On October 16, 1948 he married Cora Sides Walser. They moved to Union, SC where he managed Carolina Tire Co. He was a 32ndDegree Mason and member and Past Master of the of the Masonic Lodge in Union, SC. He also was a Shriner. Moving to Thomasville in 1960, he managed Tire Recappers for many years and retired from Triad Tire in 1988.
Daddy was a charter member and past president of the Thomasville Civitan Club, past president of the Thomasville Merchant’s Association and a member of the Voices of Brotherhood Men’s Choir. He was a proud recipient of the Piedmont Triad Flight of Honor on October 30, 2010. He donated 23.2 gallons of blood in his lifetime. Daddy loved hunting, golf and flying. He especially loved the Southeastern Old Threshers Reunion and as a pilot loved taking skydivers up for their jump.
Daddy was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Cora; brother, Nesbert Walser; sisters, Hazel Clark and Rachel Miller. He is survived by his daughters, Debbie Clinard, Kim Walser; grandson, Scott Clinard; great granddaughter, Melissa Clinard; his brother, Rex Walser and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday September 8th at Holly Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the Sechrest-Davis Funeral Home, 18 Randolph St. Thomasville on Tuesday September 7th from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Pallbearers are from all walks of Daddy’s life. His grandson, friends, former employees, his hunting buddy and his skydiver. Thanks to each of you for your love and respect now and through out his life.
A special thank you to Michele Knorr NP, nurses, CNA’S, and staff past and present who cared so much for our daddy through out the years.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Daddy’s memory to the American Red Cross or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
