Diana Wilkins Tilley, 78, was secure in her salvation when she died November 3, 2018 after years of declining health. A graveside service to celebrate her life will be at 2 PM, Wednesday, November 7 at Isom Baptist Church Cemetery, 2651 Tuttle Road, Walnut Cove, North Carolina 27052 officiated by Dr. Lawrence Clapp.
Diana was born in Greensboro to the late Richard E. and Columbia Gaither Wilkins and graduated from Greensboro Senior High School. She met and married James Stewart Tilley while still in high school when they were working at separate grocery stores. With their vast knowledge of the grocery business they opened their own store, Village Food Market in Randleman, and were successful retailers for 45 years. James preceded her in death in 1991. She loved the community and people of Randleman and was a friendly familiar face behind the counter 15 hours a day, 7 days a week. Diana will be remembered for her hard work and dedication to the community. She was an independent person who was not afraid to share her opinion even if not asked. What little spare time they enjoyed, James and Diana would travel to watch racing of any kind, especially NASCAR.
She is survived by her brothers and their spouses, Charles M. “Mickey” Kerans and wife Betty Ann of Summerfield and William G. “Bill” Wilkins and wife Betty of SC and several nieces and nephews along with their families. In addition to her parents and husband Diana’s brother, Richard E. Wilkins, Jr. preceded her in death.
