Clarence Call Boren Jones died peacefully at her home on Tuesday October 22. Clarence was a native of Greensboro, born May 10, 1928, the eldest daughter of Orton and Madeline Call Boren. She attended Lindley Elementary School, Lindley Junior High School and graduated from Greensboro Senior High School. She attended Stratford College in Danville, VA and graduated from The Women’s College of UNC.
Clarence had a wonderful life. She met her husband, William Samuel Jones, when she was a teenager and they became inseparable. They were married 54 years at the time of Bill’s death in 2005. As a wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Clarence was known to everyone for her devotion to her family, her kindness, her enthusiasm and her optimism. She never met a stranger.
Clarence had numerous interests, most revolving around anything she and Bill could do as a couple. They chaired the Cancer Fund Drive and worked tirelessly for the Boy Scouts, hosting The Order of the Caboose Oyster Roast for many years at their farm in Pleasant Garden. They were also extremely involved at Greensboro College and Hospice and Palliative Care where Clarence served on the Board of Directors. She was very active in the Greensboro Junior League and at her church, West Market Street United Methodist Church. Clarence loved her associations with all of her friends. She was a member of The Greensboro Garden Club, The Greensboro Study Club, The Tuesday Study Club, The Assembly and The Greensboro Debutante Club.
She was also a gifted gardener, having rooted and planted the many box bushes at her home and farm.
Throughout her illness, she maintained a positive attitude. She was a true inspiration to everyone around her. Her family would like to thank Home Instead Senior Care caregivers Chequilla Davis, Angela Vanstory and Cora Simpson for their extraordinary service, which allowed Clarence to remain at her home. The family is also indebted to her longtime housekeeper and friend Dorothy Milton
Clarence is predeceased by her parents, her husband William Samuel Jones, her sister Sallie Boren Goley and a grandson William James Jones. She is survived by her daughter Madeline Mills and her husband Everette, her son Orton Jones and his wife Marcia, and her grandchildren William Everette Mills and Clarence Blake Mills. She is also survived by her sister Lynn Boren Chandler and her husband Tom of Burlington and six nieces and nephews; and her precious dog Annie.
A memorial service will be held at 11 AM Thursday October 24 at West Market Street United Methodist Church. The family will receive visitors after the service at the church.
The family will be at her residence Wednesday night from 6-8 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave, Greensboro, NC 27405 or to The Music Fund at West Market Street United Methodist Church 302 W. Market St., Greensboro, NC 27401.
