Charles Russell Deaton

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, September 25, 2023 at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 West Gate City Blvd., Greensboro, NC 27407. Family will receive friends and loved ones on Sunday evening, September 24, 2023 from 5:00 until 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Charles will be laid to rest in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery, immediately following the funeral services.

Mr. Deaton was born on October 29, 1935 in Guilford County to the late Charles Benton Deaton and Leona Fletcher Deaton. He served in the United States Army and the North Carolina National Guard. Mr. Deaton worked at General Metals as a Shop Superintendent for 35 years and after retiring, he went to work with his son, David, in construction. He enjoyed fishing, working in his yard and spending time with his family. Mr. Deaton was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend who was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Deaton; daughter, Jacqueline Stanley; a son, Charles Gregory Deaton; a granddaughter, Mary Sharpe; and his sister, Judith Deaton Smith.

Those left to cherish his memory include his son, David Deaton (Debbie); grandchildren, David Michael Deaton, Christopher Joyce (Heidi), Charles Stanley (Mary Beth), Daniel Deaton, Shawn Stevens, Williem Deaton, Emma Deaton, John Peterson, Tim Hydorn, Jr. and Dalton Hydorn; six great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; other extended family and a host of friends.
