Bobbie (Bob) D. Lewis, 80, died at his home in Greensboro on March 30, 2015. Bob and his twin brother, Donnie T. Lewis were born in Oklahoma City to Lonnie Ray and Loise Thomas Lewis on October 28, 1934. Bob and Don were descendants of their Choctaw grandmother Mary Moore who is now on the Choctaw Rolls in the Choctaw Chippewa Nations, one of the Five Civilized Tribes in Oklahoma.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, April 2, 2015, at Hanes Lineberry North Elm Chapel, 515 North Elm Street. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Bob graduated from Webster High School in Tulsa, OK in 1952 and went to work for the Frisco Railroad working as a machinist apprentice in the roundhouse. That same year he and Don joined the Air National Guard; 125th Fighter Interceptor Squadron, where he served for nine years earning the rank of Staff Sergeant and was honorably discharged in 1962. In 1954 Bob began working for Friden, Inc. where he repaired calculators and installed computer systems. After twenty years with the company Bob moved to Greensboro and began building houses for Jones Lewis Builders. He retired from homebuilding in 1999 and started Lewis Home and Building Inspections and did home inspections until finally retiring in 2009.
Bob is predeceased by his father Lonnie R. Lewis, his mother Loise T. Lewis and his brother Donnie T. Lewis. He is survived by his wife of 17 years, best friend and caregiver Judy B. Lewis, his deceased brother’s wife Carolyn Lewis of Greensboro, sisters Annie Oakes and her husband Billy and Jan Martin and her husband Ron of Glenwood, Arkansas, daughter Cindy Huss and her husband Phil of Tulsa, Oklahoma, son Bobbie J. Lewis of Tulsa, Oklahoma, stepson Thomas Buck and fiancée Lisa Wall of High Point, stepson Jerry Custer and his wife Michel of Bullhead City, Arizona, 14 grandchildren and step-grandchildren including his two special little snack and movie buddies Austin Buck and Seth Wall and seven great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Bob’s team of doctors and nurses for the extraordinary care of Bob over the past three years during his declining health. We would also like to thank Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro for their care and assistance over the past few months, especially Maura Barber’s inimitable personal care.
