Betty Lou Priestley, 87, born on November 23, 1936, in Logan, West Virginia, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on July 14, 2024. She was the beloved daughter of Harry Bumgarner and Bernice Minton, both of whom preceded her in death. Betty was also predeceased by her sister, Donna Ehrlich, and her brother, Buddy Bumgarner.
Betty was the devoted wife of Gilbert G. Priestley, who passed away before her. Together, they raised four wonderful children: Angela Jones (W.C. Jones), David Priestley (Serenna Priestley), Patty D’Anna (Pat D’Anna), and Emily Harshaw (Clay Harshaw). Betty was a loving grandmother to seven grandchildren and a proud great-grandmother to seven great-grandchildren. Her family was the center of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
After raising her family, Betty found joy and fulfillment working at Friendly Avenue Baptist Church’s daycare, where she served as the office manager. Her dedication and kindness left a lasting impact on all who knew her. Betty was also an active and dedicated member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church. She served faithfully as the pledge secretary for many years, contributing to the church community with her unwavering commitment and love.
Betty’s life was marked by her deep love for her family and her steadfast faith. She will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, and the positive influence she had on everyone around her.
A memorial service to celebrate Betty’s life will be held July 19 at 10 am at Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home, 515 North Elm Street, Greensboro, NC. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her memory to St. Barnabas Episcopal Church/Faye Winstead Fund, 1300 Jefferson Road, Greensboro, NC 27410.
